Chests

A chest holds up to 27 stacks in the world and belongs to the player who places it. Outside protected land, its contents are shared: two players opening the same chest see and use the same slots, with confirmed changes appearing for both. Ownership alone does not stop another player from breaking an empty chest outside protected land.

Crafting and placing

Open Tab → Hand crafting and craft a chest with 8 planks. Logs from every tree species produce the same planks.

Move the chest to your hotbar, select it, and place it like any block. It faces you and has a separate lid and a metal latch on the front.

Dungeon chests

Chests also appear in dungeons underground; see Caves. The first time a dungeon chest is opened in Survival while crystal rewards are available, it can receive up to 10 Deep crystals, with better odds in deeper dungeons. It can also contain these extra rewards alongside its iron ingots:

Extra reward Chance per chest Amount
Copper ingots 50% 1–6
Silver ingots 30% 1–3
Gold ingots 20% 1–2
Deep Pickaxe 1% 1

These are independent chances: a chest can give several rewards, or none of them. The ingot and pickaxe chances do not change with depth. A Deep Pickaxe has a cyan crystal head and a dark handle; it mines like an iron pickaxe and lasts 250 blocks, with no special ability. It cannot be crafted; see Materials and stations.

Each chest gets one reward roll, shared by everyone. Reopening, emptying, or reconnecting does not refill it. Chests that already had their roll keep their contents, and player-placed chests never roll rewards. Extra rewards use empty slots and never replace stored items; any reward that does not fit is lost. If crystal rewards are unavailable, the chest keeps its extra-reward chance for a later visit.

Opening and closing

Aim at the chest and right-click. On mobile, aim and tap Place. The same control places your equipped item when you are not aiming at a chest or protection core.

The window shows the chest's 27 slots alongside your hotbar and backpack. Close it with Escape or Back to world. It also shows the owner's name when known, and closes if you move too far away or lose access to the chest.

Inside protected land, the landowner, members, and chest owner can open it. A member who loses membership keeps access to the chests they placed so they can collect their belongings. Access to other chests ends as soon as the server confirms the revocation.

Moving items

Drag a stack from your inventory or the chest to its destination slot. You can also select the stack and then its destination with two clicks or taps. You can:

  • Store a stack from your hotbar or backpack in the chest.
  • Move a stack from the chest to your inventory.
  • Combine matching stacks up to their limit.
  • Swap two stacks of different items.
  • Move stacks between slots in the same chest.

Changes appear when the server confirms them. If another player changes the contents while you are dragging, the move is canceled and the window updates so you can choose again.

Breaking a chest

A chest with items inside cannot be broken. Empty all 27 slots first, then break it to collect the block. Inside protected land, only the chest's owner can break it, even when it is empty. An axe breaks it faster because it is made of wood. The notice that a chest is not empty disappears after a few seconds.

Chests keep their position, contents, and ownership between sessions. Chests with unknown owners keep their contents, but prevent you from claiming a plot if they are in any of its nine chunks. Empty and break them before claiming. When placed again, a chest belongs to whoever places it.

A former member still owns their chests. Even an empty one can prevent the landowner from removing the core manually. If the land is released for unpaid upkeep or handed over to a buyer, all its chests automatically move to their respective owners' recovery lists.

Recovering chests

Open Inventory → Recover chests to see your chests removed from released or sold land. Each entry delivers the chest block and all its stacks to your inventory. If the whole batch does not fit, it stays stored so you can try again later. The list shows only your chests, survives server restarts, and never expires. Buildings remain in the world; recovered chests no longer prevent a new land claim. Torches and plants supported by a removed chest fall with it, just as they would if the chest were broken.
